PocketPTY

Your Mac terminal, from your iPhone.

Building iPhone SSH Swift
Not on the App Store Source not public yet

Need an iPhone capture of a live session (and the host list, if you have it).

Problem

You want a real shell on the Mac that’s already on the desk — from the phone in your pocket. Not a cloud jump box. Not another Mac app to install.

What it does

Native iPhone SSH client. Same Wi-Fi, Remote Login on, trust the host key, get an interactive PTY. Traffic goes iPhone → Mac sshd. Nothing is relayed.

Why it exists

A terminal you already have, reachable from the device you already carry.

Capabilities

  • Direct SSH to a Mac on the local network
  • No PocketPTY / JamesWare cloud relay
  • No Mac companion app — uses built-in Remote Login
  • Host key trust; Ed25519 key lives on the iPhone
  • One-time Mac password, then Allow — password is not saved
  • Optional Face ID to unlock saved terminals
  • Bonjour discovery of SSH hosts on the LAN

How it works

iPhone → SSH (swift-nio-ssh) → macOS sshd → PTY → your shell. Terminal rendering is SwiftTerm. Keys stay on device. iOS 17+.

Current state

Native iPhone app, usable on a physical device on the same LAN as the Mac. Not App Store. Not TestFlight.
